The Speedball Textbook was originated by Ross F. George in 1915, and has been a comprehensive resource for calligraphers, sign painters and lettering artists ever since. The Twenty-Second Edition continues to serve as a reference for both professional and student scribes. It includes some of the classic pages from previous editions, along with new examples of alphabets and calligraphic artwork.
This edition has an entirety new format; it is divided into four sections. "Lettering Preparations" contains information about selecting tools and materials. "Alphabet Styles" gives clear, easy to follow exemplars for a variety of hands, and includes new material on Brush and Neuland hands. The "Projects and Applications" section offers interesting and enjoyable ways to use lettering. Lastly, "Contemporary Calligraphy" enhances the book with samples of current work.
