"Textbook of Equipping for Disasters. Sheltering at Home" is an expanded Third Revised Edition written in 2012. Everything written in this book was professionally field Tested & Evaluated overseas, during and recovering from catastrophic natural and man-made disasters under the following actual disaster conditions: warfare, anarchy, no electricity; low light or night-time outdoors; extreme bad weather; and during widespread suffering with fatigue, hunger, dehydration, frustration with loss of life and limb.
We completed three revisions of our book over ten years with full Test & Evaluation conducted mostly overseas, during or recovering from these actual Natural Disasters (wind, rain, hail and snow storms; blizzards; tornadoes; hurricanes; floods; earthquakes; and droughts) and these Man-Made Disasters (acts of isolated and regional terrorism; looting, rape and murder; anarchy; unconventional and conventional warfare and loss of local, regional and government support services with little security).
Dr. John A. Sterba is a missionary doctor and former operational warfare Commander, Medical Corps, U.S. Navy Reserves. Dr. Sterba is Board-Certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and American Board of Urgent Care Medicine, both in adults and children. He currently practices Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine exclusively by Physician House Calls in the U.S. and overseas using the Community-Based Portable ER, fully described and inventoried with ordering numbers in this book.
"Equipping for Disasters" teaches us to obediently and compassionately meet the Six Basic Needs of our neighbors, which are: 1. Hunger, 2. Thirst, 3. Need of Shelter (which includes safe heat, safe-to-drink water, food and security), 4. Need of Clothing, 5. Medically caring for those Sick or Injured, and 6. Caring for those Imprisoned from being lonely, isolated, displaced from home, forgotten, abandoned and even detained, sometimes unlawfully or against their will. (See Matthew 25:31-46)
"Equipping for Disasters" is also available by being purchased from Saved by Grace Ministry, Inc. It is spiral bound, designed to be “hands-freeâ€, conveniently lying flat rather than the traditional publisher’s hard-bound book, which can’t lay open by itself.
“Equipping for Disasters†economically and wisely teaches us everything we need to become prepared to successfully care for our families and our neighbors under almost any circumstances. This book is a "how-to-book" written by a doctor who had to provide all types of medical, surgical, social and spiritual care for over 6,000 patients during and recovering from catastrophic disasters. It is an encouraging book for all of us to remain healthy and safe, while we care for others in greater need. It teaches us how to be a really Good Neighbor.
Sounds "old fashioned"? It is. We all need some “old fashioned†these dangerous and perilous Days now here. We all must also follow the direction and advice by our government to wisely prepare and care for each other as Good Neighbors.
